the ISLAND:
One of nature’s best kept secrets is the tiny little island of Jost Van Dyke. One Love Bar and Grill is located along the west end of White Bay. White Bay is rated as one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. It truly deserves the title. White Bay is a small bay located on the south western side of JVD. White Bay has been written up in many travel publications and blogs as one of the best beaches in the world. It’s a popular spot to anchor for the boats of all sizes. Its idyllic scenery includes crystal clear water in as many colors of turquoise imaginable. The sand is almost blinding white and like velvet between your toes. There are two marked channels to get into white bay but the largest channel (unmarked) happens to be in front of One Love Bar and Grill. It is entirely okay to stay anchored over night in White Bay. . If you have the will to wander away from One Love, you will find an idyllic island still content with the simple life.
There are approximately 220 residents on the island, 180 native. Great Harbor is the “capitol” of JVD. It’s where most of the town’s restaurants, bars and services are located. It is home to the Jost Van Dyke Methodist Church, and the island’s Government Administration Building, which houses police, customs & immigration and the island administrative offices. The world famous Foxy’s Bar is located on the eastern end of the harbor.
The heart of the village lies on the narrow side roads that veer off from the main street and runs parallel to Back Street. This is where you will find the school, library, shops, laundry, gas station, and other evidence that people actually do live on Jost Van Dyke!
Little Harbor is the east side of the island with a protected bay. There are a few little restaurants which are well known for lobster dinners.
